Bathroom ergonomics – mistakes, tricks and rules for arranging it
How to combine comfort and good looks?

Remember that the distance from the sink to the toilet should be at least 20 cm
It is worth leaving 60 cm from the edge of the toilet at the front for comfortable leg positioning,
If you’re planning a bidet, you should leave 30 cm between the bidet and the toilet. Alternatively, you can leave 20 cm between the bidet and the wall
A comfortable bathroom sink should have minimum dimensions of 50 x 40 cm. Of course, you can use a smaller one, depending on your preferences
To use the washbasin comfortably, it is advisable that the upper edge of the washbasin is at a level of 85 cm
The toilet paper holder should be placed on the right or left side (if you are right-handed, it is better to place it on the right), a maximum of 30 cm from the toilet and at a height of 76 cm
The height at which a bathroom mirror is hung should correspond to your height. The taller you are, the higher it can be hung. A standard height is 110-130 cm from the floor to the bottom edge
A shower faucet is typically mounted at a height of 110 cm, while a bathtub faucet is mounted 15-25 cm from the top edge of the bathtub. When installing a concealed bathtub faucet, it’s especially important to pay attention to the spout length, which will determine which value, lower or higher, is better

What is worth avoiding?
- Insufficient space in front of the toilet – to use the toilet comfortably, we need at least 60 cm in front of it. This is the minimum distance required in Poland, adjusted for our average height. If you’re tall, you might need more space. If you’re short, 50 cm might be adequate.
- A mirror hung too high – currently, mirrors should hang at a height of 110-130 cm from the floor to the bottom edge of the mirror. We no longer use small mirrors, hung at 140 cm, that only cover the face. This is mainly due to the way we use mirrors and our changing needs. Increasingly, bathroom mirrors are needed for more than just shaving or applying eye makeup. On the other hand, mirrors significantly improve bathroom lighting because they reflect light so well. This is why larger and lower mirrors are better.
Covering ventilation – ventilation is one of the most important elements in a bathroom. It removes excess water vapor generated during bathing. Therefore, it is crucial that it functions properly and unimpeded. Covering ventilation is prohibited, as this will cause moisture to accumulate, which can lead to furniture swelling or mold growth.

Helpful tricks for decorating a small bathroom
- Mirror with a Cabinet As mentioned earlier, a mirror visually enlarges the space. However, you can make even more use of it by using a mirror with a cabinet. This is a particularly useful solution in small bathrooms where space is significantly limited.
- A bidet instead of a bidet for the discerning customer Some people can’t imagine a bathroom without a bidet. But what if there’s no space for one? In our culture, bidets aren’t as well-known and widely used as in Italy or Spain, for example. Therefore, installing them in small bathrooms can be problematic. A solution to this problem is to install a bidet, a special faucet next to the toilet with hot and cold water.
- A cabinet above the toilet This is an increasingly popular solution that makes great use of the space above the toilet. Although the cabinet above the toilet is usually no more than 20 cm high, it can still accommodate most cosmetics and hygiene products.
- A radiator with built-in hangers This type of radiator is a treasure, especially in winter, when it’s much harder to dry a wet towel. Not only does it save wall space, but it also speeds up the drying process. It eliminates the need to screw regular towel hangers to the wall.
