Eclectic style, cosy Living room with kitchenette, bathroom, for 3 people Prefab block building

More and more homeowners are opting to relocate the kitchen to the living room when renovating flats in prefab block buildings. This way, they gain an additional bedroom, which can be arranged according to their preferences.

Ergonomic and Practical

There are three main methods for planning a kitchen-living room layout. The first method focuses on making the kitchenette as discreet as possible by using subdued, unobtrusive materials. The second method highlights both the kitchen and living room functions by blending materials and colours. This is the most commonly used and popular solution.
If you’ve ever seen kitchen cabinets with a wooden countertop, and then wooden slats on the living room wall in the same wood tone—that's the type of combination we’re talking about. The third method involves completely separating the kitchen and living room using colours. With the right choice of materials, this approach can visually enlarge the space and clearly define where the kitchen ends and the living room begins. However, it's important to remember that, in the end, it’s still the same room, so even different colours should harmonise with each other.

Small Kitchen, Big Solutions

In this project, we worked with a limited space where the living room and kitchen had to be combined. Despite the constraints, we maintained appropriate distances and dimensions to ensure comfortable use. Instead of traditional overhead lighting above the sofa, we suggested a mobile floor lamp. Additionally, shelves and picture frames were installed above the sofa.
The shelves not only serve to store books but also provide space for a projector, which can be connected to a computer. A screen mounted in the ceiling between the kitchen and living room allows for easy and comfortable movie viewing.
Since the kitchen is compact, the homeowners opted for a mobile kitchen island, which can easily be moved to a more convenient spot as needed.

Bathroom design

Throughout the project, green was the dominant theme, appearing on the sofa and kitchen cabinets. In the bathroom, we incorporated green as wall paint.

We often get asked whether using paint on bathroom walls is a good idea. As long as the wall is away from the sink, bath, or shower, we see no issue. However, it’s important to remember that the bathroom is a place where a lot of steam accumulates. Therefore, the paint should be breathable and as natural as possible in its composition.
Cabinet above the toilet
This is becoming an increasingly popular solution, making excellent use of the space above the toilet. Although the cabinet typically has a depth of no more than 20 cm, it's still enough to store most toiletries and hygiene products.
Laundry basket in the cabinet under the sink
If a freestanding laundry basket is bothersome, it can be cleverly integrated into the cabinet next to the sink, as we did in this project. With the available systems, the laundry basket can either be tilt-out or pull-out, functioning like a drawer for easy access and a cleaner look.
If possible, it's always a good idea to plan for shelves in a recessed niche. This makes the bathroom feel more spacious and organised from the moment you enter.
The shade of the cabinet under the sink was carefully selected to match the flooring in the other rooms, creating a cohesive look.
For a bathtub with a shower function, it's important to remember the addition of a glass screen to prevent water from splashing out.
