Modern Style One bedroom, living room with kitchenette, 35 m² New build

A small, feminine flat in the city centre, furnished with subtle accessories and decorations. The flat is situated in a modern building close to the centre of a larger city, and its decor reflects the modern, light architecture of the surroundings.

Project Description

In this project, we focused on several key aspects. Our primary goal was functionality and making the most of the available space. We selected furniture with simple and light forms. Light-coloured walls and furniture visually enlarge the interior, and mirrors enhance this effect. We added a cosy and personal touch with cushions, curtains, plants, and decorations. Multiple light sources were incorporated to create various atmospheres, from bright lighting for work to ambient light for relaxation.

Small Apartment Design

Designing a small apartment in a new build requires following a few key principles. First and foremost, it's essential to focus on minimalism by selecting simple and multifunctional furniture, such as a sofa bed or a bed with drawers. Light colours like white, pastels, or light shades of grey help visually expand the space, while subtle colour accents bring in a sense of dynamism. Proper lighting is crucial, so it's worth utilising large windows and a variety of light sources to ensure pleasant, even lighting.

Maximising vertical space is also important, with the use of shelves, wall-mounted cabinets, and floor-to-ceiling bookcases. Even in a small apartment, it's beneficial to define functional zones like the kitchen, dining area, living room, or workspace using furniture, rugs, or changes in wall colour. Personalising the interior with favourite artwork, family photos, or travel souvenirs adds cosiness and a personal touch. Adhering to these principles will create a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing living space.
Kitchen and living room, although part of the same space, have been visually separated by using different flooring.
Incorporating vibrant colours such as green or yellow into a grey base is a great way to bring energy and life to the space.

Bedroom

In the bedroom, we added gold stripes to the concrete wall behind the bed, subtly illuminating the space and giving it a unique character. We also suggested an upholstered bed with simple bedside tables on either side and hanging lamps. The lamps by the bed are black, but they have gold interiors, which tie in beautifully with the gold stripes on the wall.

Bathroom

In this small bathroom, we managed to fit a washing machine discreetly under the countertop by the sink. This clever solution makes the space appear much larger and more open than if a freestanding washing machine had been used. However, it's not always possible to place a washing machine under the countertop in a bathroom. The main challenge is ensuring the height of the sink is practical and comfortable for daily use while accommodating the appliance underneath.
The bathtub, thanks to a shower screen, can also function as a shower.
Above the sink, we suggested a round mirror with subtle spot lighting from a hanging lamp.

The Devil is in the Details
In the hallway, round mirrors were installed, offering a place to check your appearance before leaving and subtly reflecting the other rooms.
The artwork above the sofa was carefully matched with the cushions.
Gold and green accents are a recurring theme throughout the apartment, and they couldn’t be left out of the kitchen.
